About the vineyard:
Montenidoli is one of the most famous and special places in Italy. Founded in 1965 by Elisabetta Fagiuoli and Sergio. The property is really two properties. Up to about 300 meters, Montenidoli was once under a sea and the lower vineyards are clay and limestone with a thick layer of marine sediments. Here, in these fresh, white soils that are similar to those in Champagne and Chablis, Elisabetta grows Vernaccia. Above 380 ish meters, the land was never underwater and here you will find some of the only exposed Triassic Era soils in the world. The soil at the top of Montenidoli is over 500 million years old and a bright orange color due to its high iron content. In these soils Elisabetta grows Sangiovese that is unlike any other Sangiovese you will ever taste. There is a reason that this property, these wines, and this lady are famous the world over.
